Adding Solr to our Search Platform

Get ready for a lightning quick site.

Cutcaster is getting a much needed upgrade to our search platform, database and virtual servers.¬† Over the next two weeks, we will be testing out Solr which we will be adding to our database¬† in order to speed up the Cutcaster site in general. If you don’t know Solr, you can read more about it at lucene.apache.org/solr/

From the Solr website,

“Solr is the popular, blazing fast open source enterprise search platform from the Apache Lucene project. Its major features include powerful full-text search, hit highlighting, faceted search, dynamic clustering, database integration, and rich document (e.g., Word, PDF) handling. Solr is highly scalable, providing distributed search and index replication, and it powers the search and navigation features of many of the world’s largest internet sites.”

Favor to ask of our community.

We will be doing some bug testing over the next week and would love anyone in our Cutcaster community who could help us beta test some of the new functionality and search.  If you are interested please email webmaster@cutcaster.com and let us know that you want to participate. As a thank you we will add 15 credits to your account.

We will be updating the blog if there will be any downtime and when it is released to the live site. This is a much needed improvement to the site and will have a great impact on our future growth and success. The way we had the site structured before was fine for the early stage of growth we were in but now with more files being uploaded to the site and more people visiting each day, we needed something to improve the overall user experience by speeding things up.

Can’t wait to share the upgrades.
