We talk to 10-20 buyers a day and gather requests for content that they need now.  If you have photos, illustration, or vectors that fit into the categories below, we need your work!  Send in your best work and be included in lightboxes we send directly to customers!  As with all submissions we are looking for good photographic composition, lighting, and technique.  Remember to think like a designer when keywording your images.  Never spam keywords that don’t fit your images.

Business People and Concepts:

We need shots of people at work, business equipment, offices, and office buildings, people in business attire. Remember, not every shot of a person needs to be isolated on white, and not every model needs to be looking straight at the camera.  Use your imagination, but keep the poses natural, and relaxed and always use a model release.

Food and Drink:

We need high quality images of food and drink, as well as people cooking, and eating those meals. Grocery store shots are very desirable, but watch your logos and trademarks!
Keywords:  Food |  Wine |  Cooking | Grocery Store |  Eating |  Drinks |  Feast | Alcohol

Holiday and Seasonal Themes:

At Cutcaster, we use the term Holiday to describe a seasonal event, not a vacation!  We need all of the holiday themes.  These are huge sellers!  Christmas, Yom Kippur,  Ramadan, New Years, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, Chinese New Year, Earth Day. Birthday themes are also needed.  If it is a holiday celebrated anywhere in the world we would love to see it!

Home and Garden:

Household images of beautiful interiors, furniture, modern kitchens and baths.  Pretty gardens, and pool side views are also needed. Home repair and improvement are also needed.

Personal Care and Cosmetics:

Personal care and spa treatments are hot right now.  Grooming, massage, acupuncture, yoga, and outdoor health activates are fast sellers.  Any way you pamper yourself!  Cosmetics are also hot. Portraits highlighting classic or dramatic makeup and hair  are needed.
Keywords:  Spa |  Make-up |  Yoga |  Massage |  Women’s Health |   Diet

Financial Images:

It’s all about money.  Cash concepts, taxes, real estate, trading.  Business people in banking situations, or simple designs with cash concepts.  The stock market is hot right now.  Submit images that show thrift and savings, as well as upbeat images of financial stability.
Keywords:  Money |  Taxes |  Real Estate |  Trading |  Banking |  Savings

Kid Stuff:

We love kids, from infants to teens, advertisers are looking for great looking kids in natural poses, as well as child related products. Don’t forget, when shooting kids you must have parental consent, and a signed model release!
Keywords:  Infant |  Toddler |  Teen |  Child Care |  Family

Healthcare:

Healthcare topics are huge right now.  Swine flu, flu season, medical offices, and professionals. Medications, and prescription drugs,  holistic medicine.  If it has to do with health, we need it!  We are very interested in seeing vectors on this topic as well.
Keywords:  Medicine |  Flu Season |  Doctor |  Drugs |  Xray |  Dental

Religious and Spiritual Images:

We need all of the world religions represented in our library:  Christian and Catholic, Muslim, Judaism, Hindu and Buddhist, as well as lesser known spiritual paths, including Paganism, Sufism,  Amish and other religious cultures.  Icons, rituals, festivals, symbols (for you vector makers), traditional food, and items as well as spiritual locations.  Be sure when submitting images of churches/mosque/ synagogues to include the name of the building, and where it is located, as they did here.
Keywords:  Christian |   Muslim |  Judaism |  Hindu |  Buddhist |  Spiritual

Diversity:

In a very multicultural world, it is important to show people of many cultures, and ethnic backgrounds. Hispanic, Asian, and African Americans in business settings are highly desired.  As well as families, and groups.  Business settings, home, and school pictures are desired.  We also need people expressing their native cultures, such as Hindu traditions and Native Americans in traditional clothing.

Sports Images and Vectors:

There is a wide world of sports out there, and we need them all.  Football, baseball, soccer, golf, rugby, squash, cricket, tennis, mountain biking, water sports, and winter sports.  From drag racing to curling, we need them all.  For vector makers, be creative!  Make your sports come alive!
Sports:  Winter Sports |  Water Sports |  Soccer |  Football |  Baseball |   Golf

Electronics and Telecommunications:

We all have them:  cell phones, computers, flat panel tv’s, surround sound.  We also need the back bones to these systems:  Server rooms, computer rooms, satellite arrays,  circuit boards and more.  If it makes the internet run, makes your phone ring, or your cable work, we want it!

Do you need a particular image or illustration? Post your requirements in the Project Request Forum!

Buying credits to license royalty free stock images and vector illustrations at Cutcaster gives you one more way to quickly download and license your desired files at a discount. When a user has available credits in their Cutcaster Credit account, they are able to control their budget and immediately download images or vectors from the site without having to checkout every time. It’s ONE simple click. The credit packages range from $23-4000.

On your MyCart page, if you click on the checkout button it will go directly to the usual checkout page where you have two options to pay. The first option is “pay-as-you-go,” which allows you to download any of the content at Cutcaster using any major credit card. The second option is buying credits in bulk at a discount and then using them. If, however, your Available Credits are less than the Total Amount of the items in their cart, you can use a credit card to purchase the files or buy more credits. But if your Available Credits are greater than the Total amount, you can choose between using your Cutcaster Available Credits or just use your credit card.

If you have any questions give us a call at 215-688-2751 and ask for John or email us at webmaster@cutcaster.com. To see a comparison of the different credit packages click on http://www.cutcaster.com/credits.

Just a quick headsup that we need more “back to school” type images at Cutcaster. Buyers are looking for these images and illustrations and we are creating Lightbox to add these files to so we can send out to buyers. If you have good “back to school” related content that you haven’t uploaded to Cutcaster, please do so and add into the notes that it is for this request. Thanks in advance.

Phewwwww. The last two weeks saw a lot of changes at Cutcaster, some of which you see on the front-end and some of which are behind the scenes or still need to be released. I did want to pass along a quick update to see where what we have done and where we are headed. This is only a partial list.

Corporate accounts and Cutcaster Credits are going to be rolled out in the next day or so and I will have a blog post about the two new ways to purchase images tomorrow. This will definitely help increase sales even more. Buyers told us that they love the quality of your work over our competitors but needed more ways to purchase the content then just the pay-as-you-go or bidding model that we have right now. This is a really exciting step for us, I believe. Invoicing and accounting for this is a huge undertakinggg..but we are going to nail it.

We are looking to get any feedback you have on our lightboxes so we can improve them. If there is a competitor site that you think does them particularly well or there are little tweaks we could implement, please let us know.

We renamed the downloaded comp files on the site to “[Cutcaster]-(TITLE)-(MEDIA_ID)” so that it was easier for people to remember where they downloaded the comp and be able to come back to find it.

In terms of the site’s speed, I am still working on decreasing the load time of the homepage and would love to hear any programmers or computer hacks thoughts for how we can speed it up. I think I may have to take some of the graphics and scripts off the homepage so it loads faster. Maybe just have the main flash player and the three spotlight areas minus the other graphics. Those graphics are weighing down the page. Any ideas for how we should make this look or improve the speed of the loading time?

We added back the roll over preview when you are searching for images. This will give the user a simple way to view the thumbnail at a slightly larger file size without the need to click through to the Media Details Page. One issues is I think it could be slowing down the search slightly, which I am looking into and will let you know. The JPEG preview image size could be taking too much time to load the page when looking at 100 images at one time in a search result.

We cleaned up some bugs in the upload area so things should run smoother when uploading via FTP or HTTP. In addition, we made it more user friendly and seamless to add your data. We always want to improve so let us know what you like and don’t like. Also I added some text to each of the different upload tabs, ie. describe, submit, pending etc., so you now have answers to many of your questions.

Still working on what to do in terms of offering extended licensing and how we want to set it up.

We have been cranking on a new email system that is going to really help our marketing efforts and our communication with buyers. On that note….

As far as marketing is concerned, we are aggressively reaching out and expanding our buyers list. We are hitting the phones everyday to build more relationships and tell more people about Cutcaster. I make about 6-8 phone calls a day alone. It’s a grueling and long process but I see it paying dividends. Also these new corporate accounts and credits, which we are just rolling out will offer buyers another two ways to purchase content from us. In addition, we have been dropping press releases, sending out email blasts to publishers, advertisers and graphic designers, joined two affiliate networks, created coupons and discount codes for buyers to use, expanded our referral program (sign up if you haven’t already through your studio page), optimized our site and blog even more, buying keywords on major search engines, started advertising in publications that are best for reaching out demographic, conducted interviews and are getting articles written about us, going to trade shows for buyers, doing in office meetings/demos with potential customers and reaching out to form new business partnerships with sites or businesses that could offer our services to their users.

There is a bunch more happening behind the scenes that would bore you but I hope this sheds light onto what we have been doing to keep ourselves busy and moving successfully forward. If you ever want to talk to me personally my email is john AT cutcaster DOT com or my cell is 215-688-2751. I am free to help at any time ;-)

I’m still getting used to San Francisco and working from out here. I do miss NYC but love it here already. I have been working out of our office in the Presidio,

Hope this finds you well and I will have an update on the corporate accounts and credits tomorrow.

Recently we had a conversation with a large and very informed buyer.  We wanted to pass along these nuggets of wisdom and knowledge (these are shorthand notes to help you the reader):

Looking for more diversity with university and middle school students.  For school kids, they need different types of schools…urban, public, etc and avoid trendy clothes and looks if they take off uniforms.

Need plenty of older and younger, not a lot in the middle.

Wood working class was too posed, and needed to have safety gear.

Too many posed shots and not enough looking like they where engaged.

School kids form other cultures like South America.

Looking for more disabled, not just the elderly, but all types of disabilities with them doing every day things (not focused on the disability).

Native Americans living in every day life with demographics in keywords

Need more photos with minorities in them and to be keyworded with the word ‘minority’ because this is a popular search term.
